This work seeks to trace time through built form. The speculative project is situated along the Salmon River near Otis, Oregon. The swelling seasonal river, eroding basalt banks and ever-expanding old-growth forests shape a site in constant flux. Thin steel columns act as yardsticks to measure the changes in site through corrosion, erosion, and growth. The program’s first life as a residential home for retirees gives way to a second life as a natural interpretive centre after their passing.
Negatives became useful diagrams. Abstraction helped make visible the interconnected flows weaving the site together.
